Emery Roth’s 1938 Normandy Apartments is a designated Individual Landmark, in addition to being located within the Riverside-West End Historic District. We sought to bridge our client’s minimalist taste with the building’s Art Moderne and Renaissance Revival styles by keeping our interventions simple and distinct. We made the space feel lighter and brighter by opening up the public areas of the apartment, while maintaining a hierarchy of spaces to delineate the public areas from the bedroom and study in the back.
