A gallery owner and her husband were ready to update their longtime home in a prewar building on the Upper East Side. Fradkin & McAlpin reconfigured the warren of small rooms and designed a grand hallway between the apartments public and private spaces. A conscious dialogue was created between the contemporary detailing and the heavy moldings of the original apartment. The rich palette of colors and materials creates a backdrop for the owners’ collection of modern paintings and sculpture.
