NY Distilling Co.

An emerging distillery in Brooklyn

One of the founding partners of the Brooklyn Brewery asked Fradkin & McAlpin to collaborate on his newest venture: NY Distilling Company, a functioning microdistillery and bar in an unusual freestanding 5,000 sf former garage next to a fire station. The design, which took its cue from the building’s rusting corrugated steel walls and Brooklyn’s gentrifying but still gritty Williamsburg neighborhood, juxtaposes contemporary and industrial chic to striking effect: The bar’s retro stools and brick and clay-tile-block walls (rhythmically punctuated by steel-beam pilasters) contrast strikingly with the bright, sculptural stainless steel and copper distillery equipment visible just beyond.
