The late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' apartment in a respected Rosario Candela building retained the 1920s architect's signature expansive public spaces. But the layout did not support the lifestyle of a contemporary family, and a reconfiguration was in order, along with a redesign to align the décor more closely with the new owner's preferences. Fradkin & McAlpin partnered with interior design firm Studio Sofield to plan the new layout, to add luxurious, artisanal finishes, and to insert cutting-edge mechanical, electrical, and AV systems. The complex approval process involved reviews not only by the building itself but also by the New York City Department of Buildings and the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
